The Art Project at St Pancras Hospital is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by service users from North and South Camden NHS Foundation Trust Acute Day Units.
From January to September, 2015 artist Alexa Wright led weekly workshops at these two day centres for people who experienced deterioration in their mental health. The workshops offered an opportunity for participants to use photo-collage as a direct, visual means to communicate recent experiences. Some people also continued to work with the artist on a 1-1 basis to create small photo-text books.
The Piecing it Together exhibition brings together a selection of photographs of the collages and some of the original books made during the project with examples of Alexa Wright’s own work.
The diversity and visual impact of the works in the Piecing it Together exhibition demonstrate that collage can be an engaging and rich medium for visual storytelling, even for people with no previous artistic experience.
The stories behind these works reveal how mental illness is no different to physical illness in that it can take many different forms and can affect anyone at any time.
All works are editioned and copies are for sale.
